Board of Directors

Dr. Ellen Melton, Ph.D., LPC-S, LMFT-S - Board President

Dr. Ellen Melton has a Ph.D. in Psychology from Capella University, an  M.S. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Angelo State  University and a B.S. in Psychology from Angelo State University.  Currently Dr. Melton has been a Visiting Assistant Professor in the  Master of Arts in Counseling program at St. Edwards University since  2014. Dr. Melton’s areas of expertise and interest include clinical  counseling/psychotherapy practice, psychoanalysis, psychopathology,  forensic psychology and psychological assessment. Her private practice  focuses psychotherapy and intern supervision. In addition, she is also a  continuing education provider for Licensed Professional Counselors and  Marriage and Family Therapists and developed a LPC/LMFT Supervision  Training Course.

Fred Tucker, MA, LPC-S - Board Treasurer

Fred Tucker, MA, LPC-S - Board Treasurer

I was invited to become a member of the Board of Directors for CAC in  2008, and asked to take over the Board Chair in 2010.  It was a most  rewarding position and as I watch CAC continue its growth and  development  as a valuable resource for the Austin community and am  happy to be the new Board Treasurer.

I am co-creator of Austin Counseling Center, a group of Austin  therapists and supervisors.  As a therapist, I see a variety of clients,  addressing depression, anxiety, esteem issues, loss and bereavement,  using an eclectic array of modalities, yet based on the notion of the  unconscious as containing the greater Self, as discovered  and taught by  Carl Jung.  I work especially well with middle aged male clients facing  the problems of mid-life transitions.

As a supervisor I want to provide input for all the skills that a  future practice in therapy might entail.  This would include the  business skills of how to do your accounting, tax forms, marketing,  website, discovering your niche  and all the other various concerns that  post grads have about becoming a creditable asset in the care giving  community in Austin.  I also want to provide help in discovering what is  going on inside oneself when in session.  Who are we as a therapist?   Knowing oneself will better inform each of us in our work and provide a  means to be the best therapist we can be.

Jan Anderson, LPC, NCC, MA - Board Secretary

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been in practice for over  14 years. My approach to therapy is a team effort. I understand that my  role is to help my clients find their way to a happier, more peaceful  life and I consider it a privilege to be allowed to be a witness and a  support on their journey. Education is just a part of what works in  therapy, the other part is acceptance, humor and rapport. I work hard to  establish that type of experience for my clients. I am excited to be a  part of Capital Area Counseling and the wonderful services they provide  to the community.

I have lived in Austin since November of 2005 and have not missed the Wisconsin winters of my childhood for even one second! I am so incredibly proud to be the Executive Director of Capital Area Counseling; my team here is made up of some of the most amazing individuals I have ever worked with. My passion and life's work have always been advocating for and supporting those in need of mental health services; CAC shares that mission with me. I have worked hard to connect CAC to as many like-minded local nonprofits and partnering agencies as possible. My goal is to continue with that same mission until affordable, high-quality, easily accessible mental health services are available to everyone.

I received my bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point and my master's degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of West Alabama – Livingston. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor in Texas and am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision at the University of the Cumberlands. In addition to my role at CAC, I teach as a University Supervisor for the fantastic students at Northwestern University. I am also the owner of From Spark to Fire Counseling & Supervision, a private practice in North Austin/Leander.

When I'm not working, teaching, or in class…I can be found in Leander with my twin daughters doing all kinds of fun and creative things! In my free time, I enjoy running, reading, movies, and all things chocolate! I live my life as an adventure finding a reason to share a laugh and a smile whenever possible!
