At Capital Area Counseling (CAC), our volunteer internship program offers more than just
practicum or licensure hours it’s an opportunity to serve the Austin community while developing as a therapist. Interns gain hands-on experience in a supportive environment that values diversity, critical thinking, and personal growth.
Pre Grad Internships
What we ask:
- Minimum caseload of 8 ongoing weekly clients
- Minimum 6-month commitment
Post Grad Internships
A post-grad refers to an individual who has completed and graduated from a Master’s program and may be seeking advanced training, licensure hours, or professional experience in their field.
What we ask:
- Minimum caseload of 3 ongoing weekly clients
- Minimum 6-month commitment

Application Windows
For Spring start dates, application are accepted starting October 1st.
For Summer start dates, applications are accepted starting February 1st.
For Fall start dates, applications are accepted starting May 1st.

Volunteer Clinical Supervisor
Capital Area Counseling is seeking fully licensed LMFTs, LPCs, LMSWs/LCSWs, and board-approved supervisors (LMFT-S, LPC-S, and LCSW Supervisors) who are passionate about mentoring the next generation of mental health professionals while helping expand access to affordable mental health care in our community.
As a fully licensed clinician participating in CAC’s Supervision Training Program, you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Learn to supervise graduate counseling and social work students as they begin seeing clients.
- Attend biweekly supervision training meetings for support, consultation, and networking.
- Gain access to CAC’s training materials, resources, and presentations.
- Support the professional development of future therapists.
- Make a meaningful impact on clients and the Austin community.
- Join a collaborative team dedicated to providing accessible, high-quality mental health care.
Board-approved supervisors (LMFT-S, LPC-S, and LCSW Supervisors) will also
enjoy:
- Access to our biweekly supervisor consultation meetings for ongoing
support and networking. - Connections with approximately 30 graduating student counselors and
social work interns each semester, creating opportunities to recruit future
post-graduate clinicians. - Valuable leadership and supervisory experience that enhances your
professional and volunteer resume.
